This week in Language Arts...
We are starting the year by talking about Finding the main idea and supporting details from a text.
Our Language Arts time is split up into chunks of time.
First, your student works on i-ready individual instruction. These are lessons they complete online based on their individual level. I monitor their progress and can give extra lessons on areas they need extra support.
Second, we have whole group reading instruction. This is where we read a passage together and talk about the skill we are focusing on through communicative activities.
Third is our Daily 5 time. This is an hour block set for students to work independently on different tasks. They have options that I have put in place and they must complete certain tasks that are due on Fridays. This is the time where I will work with students individually or in small groups based on their learning needs. This is also the time where students will meet with their reading groups to discuss a book I have assigned.
Our daily 5 allows students to choose activities to do that will enrich their reading skills. The five choices are:
Read to self
Read to someone
Listen to Reading
Work on writing
